A Special Tribute to Rev. Dr. Jim Holley on His 7th Anniversary As Pastor of Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church
Greater Works Shall Ye Do” “ (sic)

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works that (sic) these shall he do, because I go unto My Father. St. John 14:12

Again, Rev. Holley, it is our blessed privilege to pay tribute to you for the great works you have done for the sake of the Gospel, and for our sake. By the grace of God, you have done, are now doing, and will continue to do “Greater Works”. You have tackled what some said was impossible, and you have made it possible. Because you have accepted the plan of God, submitted to the will of Jesus Christ, and followed the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you have accomplished what many have dared to accomplish. We love you, we thank God for you, and we will continue to follow your leadership.

Because of your total commitment, your whole-hearted dedication, and your sincerity, we, your followers, dedicate this poem, paraphrased, to you:

Someone said that it couldn’t be done,
But you, with a chuckle, replied:
That “maybe it couldn’t;” but you would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till you’d tried.
So you buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On your face. If you worried you hid it.
You started to sing as you tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and you did it.

Somebody scoffed: “Oh you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;”
But you took off your coat and you took off your hat
And the first thing

And the first thing we knew you’d begun it.
With a lift of your chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
You started to sing as you tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and you did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a gain,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle thing thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it!

About Rev. Dr. C.J. Holley
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rev. Holley came to Detroit in January, 1969. His Christ-like spirit is exhibited in his close relationship with each member of the Little Rock family.
Rev. Holley graduated from Tennessee University and holds a Masters Degree in European and American History from the University of Chicago. Rev. Holley has also received his Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Wayne State University.
He is a member of the Association of Christian Education Directors; Council of Baptist Pastors; Black Economical Council; Life Member: NAACP; National Baptist Convention; American Baptist Convention; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; Tennessee State Alumni.
This man of God serves mankind of all ages and standing as an advisor as well as a friend.
One June 8, 1972, God sent Rev. Holley to Pastor the Little Rock Baptist Church family. He brought with him an untold wealth of attributes. His leadership ability labels him as an outstanding administrator and builder. Through his tireless efforts, Little Rock has reached many heights of beauty.
Since his sixth anniversary, we have moved into a new edifice. The sanctuary seating capacity is 1200 with 27 meeting rooms, a nursery, day care facilities, gym, banquet room, men and women’s lounge. Two vans have also been added to our transportation program. The membership has continued to increase, both youth and adult as well as our choirs. With him we continue to climb spiritually.
Pastoring Little Rock Baptist Church is just one of Rev. Holley’s vocations. He is religious broadcaster for WJLB Radio where he spreads the Gospel through music. On June 18, 1979, the Academy of Arts and Sciences will present the Daviticus Award for Gospel Music. Rev. Holley is founder and president.
Under the leadership of Rev. Holley, Little Rock was the first black church to support an orphanage in Haiti (Christ Temple Orphanage).
May, 1979, we became the owners and directors of the Martin Luther King School, where young minds can excel in the spirit of the Lord.
Our Pastor not only teaches and preaches the Word of God, he involves himself in civic affairs and charitable deeds.
For a dreamer lives forever, but a toiler dies in a day.
