Central Woodward Christian Church and Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church
Creator: Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church

Description: This transcript includes the backgrounds of Central Woodward Christian Church and Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church. It first tells the story of Central Woodward, that had it's beginnings in private homes and commercial rentals that began with immigrant families. After acquiring a church building in 1862 the legacy of the church began with Richard Hawley and Colin Campbell who first led the church with their then unpopular practices of a open communion, one man in residence pastoral system, and the use of musical instruments in worship.
After 50 years of being a predominately white congregation that population was now giving way to a growing black congregation. Soon after, it was sold to Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jim Holley.
Since it's founding the church has grown beyond the role of just a missionary but to also provide leadership, not only to the church but the community.
